Solving a Water Damaged Cell Phone

Note: Do not touch your mobile phone if it’s wet and connected to a charger.

Quickly remove your phone from the water and take out its battery. It is the first thing you can do to save your phone. Most devices come with a white indicator that turns pink or red, confirming that the device has been water damaged.

So, dry the moisture by putting your phone in a bowl or bag of rice for at least 12 hours. You can also dry the phone using a vacuum cleaner. But make sure to keep the vacuum at a distance. You can also apply rubbing alcohol to your device. It may work if the phone isn’t exposed to water yet.

Also, try to follow these Do’s and Don’ts:

  • Remove any external hardware or chip plugged into your phones, such as memory card and sim card
  • Use an absorbent towel and use gentle hands to dry the area

  • Avoid pushing buttons to stop the water from going into the circuit
  • Never use a hairdryer, or else it could force the water from reaching the internal components
  • Don’t shake your phone unnecessarily – keep it still to save the water from spreading to other parts of the device
